Why Urethane Casting ?

Urethane Casting : An Introduction

Urethane Casting, sometimes referred as Polyurethane casting or Vacuum Casting is a fabrication method that uses silicone molds to produce high-quality plastic as well as rubber components under vacuum. The Urethane Casting process has 3 major steps:

  1. The Master Pattern: The high-quality master pattern of the final part is created using either Polyjet 3D or Stereolithography (SLA) that offers high-resolution , cost effective and naturally smooth finished part.

  2. Make Silicon Rubber Mold: The next step is to encapsulate the master pattern into a two-part silicone rubber mold. After the mold is cured,  it is carefully split using a scalpel and the master pattern, is removed. This leaves the negative shape cavity of the part.

  3. Mix and Pouring: The two-component casting resin is then mixed and poured into the silicon mold which is then placed in vacuum chamber to mitigate any bubbles. The resin material can be mixed with metallic powder or any coloring pigment to achieve aesthetic or specific functional properties.

  4. Curing: The casted resin is then placed in a heating chamber to cure. Once cured, the casting is removed from the mold and the process is repeated until the desired quantity is achieved.

FINISHING OPTIONS

We offer following surface finishes for Urethan Casting Parts. Contact us for your custom needs or if you need more information.

Finishng Options

This is a standard surface finish for all parts and offers quickest turnaround. The sharp edges and burrs are removed. However, there are some layer lines visible over the surface.
